This talented all-female quintet returns with their sixth album, Inquisition, two years after The Dark Tower, which I found fairly decent. Burning Witches have always been a bit hit-or-miss for me, and I generally like every other album they put out. That trend continues here on Inquisition. Laura Guldemond sounds as powerful and commanding as ever, and the musicianship is solid, but the songwriting, vocal lines, and riffs just don't land this time around. I struggled to find much to latch onto, aside from a few moments like "Soul Eater," "Burn in Hell," and parts of "The Spell of the Skull," all of which are somewhat engaging. Unfortunately, with only about 10 minutes of good heavy metal and the remaining 38 minutes being bang average, Inquisition is likely to end up in the discard pile for 2025.
