Originally starting out as Toxic Room, Portuguese Metal act Toxikull play a kickass, high-calibre mix of Traditional Metal à la Judas Priest and Accept and Thrash that sounds similar to bands like Vulture and Evil Invaders if they had more of an '80s melodic sensibility. Cursed and Punished is one of those albums that's just chock-full of killer tracks, from the Priest worship of "Killer Night" to the riffy Heavy/Power slayage of "Helluminate" to the head flailing "Dark Glory" and "Speed Blood Metal". Closing track "In the Name of Evil" closes the album on a high note that sees the band mixing in some King Diamond and even some Slayer into their sound to create a sinister atmosphere and proves this band is more than capable of stepping out of their comfort zone. At 33 minutes, this is too short to rate more highly, but this is a compact album filled with enough intensity, energy, and capability to suggest that these guys could become a big player in the recent Thrash revival. Get it, and get it now. |
