I've been sitting on this Toxikull promo for a few months and all I can say after listening over the past few days is shame on me. Under the Southern Light is the third album from this Portuguese band and it is a monster of pure metallic might. Opener "Night Shadows" will leave you breathless with its speed, absolutely pummeling riffs, and drums, with some of the best high-pitched screams I've heard in a long time. Under the Southern Light continues to deliver blistering '80s metal for another nine tracks without a dud in the bunch, varying speeds and mood, but never losing the thread of heavy fucking metal. Take the bombast of Primal Fear, the '80s feel of Malice and the melodic sensibilities of Accept, and you start to get a feel for what Toxikull brings to the party. Under the Southern Light is a fantastic, no frills, killer metal album, plain and simple.
