Tormentor Tyrant are a Finnish death metal trio composed of members from notable acts like Corpsessed, Solothus, Tyranny, Profetus and Cataleptic. They have a full-length in the works as I write this, so I figured it'd be as good a time as any to talk about their self-titled EP from 2022.

From the opening blast of "Tormentor Tyrant," it's pretty clear that these boys' influences begin and end with Floridian legends Deicide. As a fan myself, I can't say I'm unhappy with the prospect of a Finnish answer to them, and with tracks like the killer "Prime Evil," you'll see what I mean. I will say Tormentor Tyrant are a bit more raw and underground than Deicide, but whether that's intentional or just a sign of growing pains before the full-length is something we'll have to wait and see about. For now, anyone who yearns for the days of Legion, this is a brutal, technical tribute of an EP that'd put a rare grin on Glen's face, so odds are it'll carve one into yours.
