It's really amazing how Jag Panzer have parleyed their sliver of notoriety from the hallowed '80s and turned it into such a long career. They have managed this largely by just continuing to be a good band, and sometimes a great one. I really think their run around the turn of the century was their high point of both productivity and quality, and that albums like Mechanized Warfare and the masterwork of Thane to the Throne were their best recordings.

This is their twelfth album, if you can believe it, and one of the remarkable things about this is how they really don't sound like any time has passed since 2001. The songwriting is largely the same, the recording is the same, and Harry Conklin sounds fucking just like he did then—the man just doesn't seem to age.

I have to say I don't think the songwriting is as good as on past albums, even the more recent ones, which have all suffered from a lack of really memorable songs. This will keep you interested all the way through, and the performances are solid, but after it's over you won't remember much of it. They hit some good bits here and there—like the chorus of "Stronger Than You Know"—but it's not enough to sustain a whole album. A middling work from this venerable band.
