The Deviant Chord

Rated 4/5 (80%) (20 Votes)

I've owned a couple of Jag Panzer albums over the past 30 years, but none really rang the bell for me. With their 10th album, The Deviant Chord, getting positive reaction, I decided to give them another go and I'm glad I did. Melodic traditional metal has always been this band's stock and trade and songs like "Born of the Flame" and "Dare" show a band that knows their way around a riff. Pounding and propulsive rhythms and catchy choruses are in ample supply and Jag Panzer know how to get your fist in the air. There are a couple of softer tracks, like "Foggy Dew", that are well done and don't derail the album's flow. The Deviant Chord is a solid, well-written effort that isn't going to make me give up my early Manowar albums but is well worth checking out if traditional metal is your thing.
