Hellhammer is the fifth album from Argentina's Feanor and guess what? It doesn't sound exactly like a Wizard album. Some of that is undoubtedly due to new singer Micke Stark, who took over the microphone from Wizard's Sven D'anna in 2023. Stark, who was a drummer early in his career and possesses the kind of gritty voice and ability to hit the higher registers power metal fans adore, is a great replacement for D'anna and his bellows give Feanor some added individuality. Sure, they still sound like Wizard here and there, but the fast pacing, rolling drum work and whoa-oh-oh choruses would be just at home emanating from Running Wild, Iron Savior, Helloween, etc. You get the picture. As I've pointed out in past reviews of Feanor albums, the playing is tight and spot-on, choruses beg to be sung along to, etc. and the songs are well written even though you've heard similar stuff from the bands I mentioned earlier many times over. Feanor doesn't appear to be trying to do anything other than play ass kicking, crunchy power metal sure to get fists in the air and, with Hellhammer, that's what they've done.
