My home country of Finland is well known for having an apparently endless supply of metal acts, likely because there is, in fact, something in the water, and Sigir are just another example of that. Following in the footsteps of Wintersun and Kalmah without simply copying them, these boys work in that melancholic vein of melodic death metal you can really only call Finnish. You get faster songs like the opening title track, "Lantern," "The Oath," and the oddly titled closer "Enter" along with slower tunes like the mid-paced "Depraved" with its gorgeous Finnish-sung middle section, the crushing "The Offering," and the epic, stirring highlight "From Time to Eternity," all of which has plenty of melodic hooks and excellent leads while maintaining a gloomy atmosphere. You probably noticed I just named every track, and that's because every single one is a top-notch example of what we Finns do best with melodic death metal, made all the more impressive by this being a debut made up of newcomers. A strong start for a talented band who I'm sure we'll hear more from in the future. See below for more interviews... ↓ |
