I have to say, the recent strong resurgence of death metal in Finland warms my old, blackened heart like little else out there, partly because so many of the upcoming bands are damn good at what they do. Whisper can be counted among them, a 5-piece that truly evokes the old '90s scene by virtue of having members between the ages of 16 and 19, but mostly because they stomp ass about as hard as some of the old guard.

Musically, Xenogenisis reminds me a good bit of Demigod with their unorthodox and ominous guitar work with a tinge of Blood Incantation in the lyrical themes and more obtuse moments. The guitar sound is downtuned and crispy as hell, which goes a long way to establishing the crushing mood of cosmic dread that permeates throughout, as do the delightfully macabre and occasionally massive song titles (the instrumental is called "Extraterrestrial Seeds Bursting Forth in Quantum Dimensions, Initiating a Burgeoning Epoch Beyond Mortal Perceptions, Preventing the Transmigration of Souls to the Beyond and the Dawn of the Last Day (Измерение Души - The Soul Dimension)", which challenges Demilich for most ridiculously long song title as much as it cramps my hand typing it all out). Dark, eerie, and heavy as hell, this EP is a strong, promising debut from a young act whose hands I'd gladly put the future of the scene on.
