Hard to believe this is the twelfth album from God Dethroned, who broke up for a while, but came back ten years ago for "a few select shows" and have put out three albums since then. Now, none of those albums have been on the level of past works like Ravenous or Passiondale, but they have been decent. I was curious to see what this would be like, four years after their most recent album, Illuminati. This is not really the same band as in the old days, with only mainstay Henri "Serpent King" Sattler remaining from the ancient days. Passiondale was their undeniable high point, and none of the other members were even around then. This is pretty much what I expected, if not what I hoped for—tight, proficient, well executed, but not really exciting. It sounds like God Dethroned right down to the last detail, but it lacks any really good melodies or standout moments. All of these songs sound like leftover tracks from Lair of the White Worm or Into the Lungs of Hell. Not bad, but not really good either. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
