After a long hiatus, Severe Torture roared back in 2022 with the short EP Fisting the Sockets and finally we get their first full-length album in 14 years. Torn from the Jaws of Death pretty much showcases Severe Torture in top form, with an incisive, brutal death metal filled with razor-sharp riffs and some drum work that made me air drum more than a few times (I'm usually more of an air guitar guy). It's not all mayhem and devastation, the band also going into melodic, atmospheric territory that has a vibe of doom and gloom that's a little disturbing, but well in line with the lyrical theme. Fans of speed, fear not, the album is largely the fast brutal death that you've come to expect from the band. To their credit, they're not just presenting us with a wall of devastating death like many bands in the subgenre do, and that makes the album all the more interesting.
