Well, this is certainly short and sweet. It’s been a long time since I last heard some Severe Torture, and for cause, as this is their first new material since Slaughtered in 2010. This short EP shows that they can still deliver the goods. Tight, brutal death metal that’s not without reminding of Cannibal Corpse and other bands of that ilk is the name of the game, and lyrically they’re not about pretty flowers either. There’s heaviness aplenty and it’s mostly pedal to the metal, though not absurdly so, and you just got to love those guitar melodies that creep up here and there and stick in your head (not to mention reaching for that air guitar). This is a little taster while waiting for the new album that should be released early in 2023, and if the quality is as good as this, it’s certainly something to look forward to. |
