If I'm counting right, this is the 18th studio album by Six Feet Under since 1995. Throw in a live album and a few EPs, and that's quite a respectable output. Killing for Revenge is pretty much what I expected from the band, no surprises whatsoever. There are some really solid tracks, and they all happen to be the fast ones, some of which are pretty catchy while others not so much, but will get you headbanging or at least tapping your foot. The slower songs, eh... not so good and even a bit boring, though I wouldn't go as far as to say I necessarily felt like hitting the skip button. The vocals are often too upfront here and steal the show, often almost ruining an otherwise decent song. As usual, there's no shortage of heaviness, especially on the slower tracks. Closing with a cover of Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" is both cool and weird; it's fun to hear, but it sticks out a little too much. I doubt that Killing for Revenge will bring any of the band's detractors into the fold, but fans of the band will certainly find something to like. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
