This is some old school crusty blend of Death Metal and Black/Thrash with an occasional rock ‘n’ roll-ish vibe. The album comes off "tongue-in-cheek evil", with a thematic revolving around gore, Satan and sex – the music itself will make you smile at times, like the guys are goofing around but in a "controlled" way. Chunky, catchy riffs, some fucking cool and visceral guitar solos, heavy, pounding drums are complemented by screechy black-ish vocals (though the vocalist surprises us with a few high-pitched screams here and there.) The basics are there for something great, but ultimately I found the album to be lacking punch – there’s nothing particularly exciting here and this works best as a background music type of album than something that I want to pay attention to. Still worth checking out if the price is right, and a band that could go places if their next album unleashes the energy that seems to have missed the bus on the way to the studio to record this one. |
