First full-length album for Italy's Demon Spell, after the very cool Evil Nights EP back in 2024. When I hear bands like this, I'm not worried about nostalgia and old bands disappearing. These guys play it old school while sounding fresh and just know how to write and play catchy heavy metal songs. Like on the EP, there's a strong Mercyful Fate going on here, especially because of the vocal style inspired but not identical to King Diamond's. Demon Spell sounds a little more "fun" on this album: it's catchy as hell, not especially dark but not flowery either, just crunchy, in-your-face heavy metal that makes you want to sing along and dust off the air guitar. No, it's not original, but it's not rusty either. I don't feel like I need to wait for some old-school band to finally release a long-awaited album when I hear stuff like this from a newer band.
