This band has been kicking around for a few years, releasing an EP and some singles, but this is their first real album. This is Black Metal that doesn't have one single characteristic that stands out—it's not that fast, it's not harsh or overly melodic, it's not slick and it doesn't sound especially underground. This has a melodic sound that does remind me somewhat of Greek bands like Varathron or Zemial, or maybe Mortuary Drape. It has good riffs and a good bit more atmosphere than it really should be able to conjure up. Even if it's not standing out at any one thing, it's still a good listen. |
