Idol Throne is following up their first two full-length albums with a 3-song EP called Harbinger of Light. It hasn't been all that long since A Clarion Call, just a year and a half, so I'm not sure what prompted the band to go with an EP this time around, but new music is new music. Idol Throne have played thrashy, melodic heavy metal thus far and that's no different on Harbinger of Light, with opening track "Death and the Viper's Tongue" the thrashiest with an almost Slayer level of aggression. "Spellbound Eyes" and "Harbinger of Light" are more in line with the punchy, Armored Saint style metal of A Clarion Call, melodic but heavy with solid riffs and some pretty good lead work. If nothing else, Harbinger of Light is letting fans know Idol Throne are staying the course in terms of musical direction, so if you liked their last one, this EP should work well and hopefully presages more thrashy, melodic metal on their next full-length release.
