Surprising to get a new album from this band so soon after the last one—not even 2 years apart. Most notable for being one of the last remnants of the Les Légions Noires days of the '90s, Mütiilation have cranked out an album that is actually quite a bit better than I expected. Mostly, this band's output has been more notable for orthodoxy than quality, but this is a head above Black Metal Cult or Sorrow Galaxies. The production is sharper without losing the underground feel, the guitar sound is nice and raw, and the riffs sound like they put actual effort into them. Also this time out there is an actual drummer at work here, and that adds a lot of vibrance and personality to the music. This is still primitive Black Metal that makes no nods to modernity, but at least this album is enjoyable beyond that. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
