This is a reissue of the Heavy Metal debut album from Germany's NWOBHM-adjacent Mad Max with their In Concert EP as a bonus. Straightforward hard rock/heavy metal with simple lyrics about women and the metal lifestyle sums up this release, as was the case with many underground/independent records of the era. Even as early as 1981 or 1982, Mad Max already sounded like a lot of other bands that had come before, especially the more melodic and commercial-leaning acts from the U.K. like Def Leppard, Tygers of Pan Tang and Gaskin with a dose of UFO. Nothing on Heavy Metal or In Concert does anything at all for me, but like a lot of early 80s bands, I'm sure Mad Max has their champions, just as I love bands of that era that others don't. I can't imagine those fans not already possessing these records in some format, but if not, this is an opportunity to pick up both at once, so knock yourself out. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
