Review

Steel for Fire is the debut album from this strangely named Portuguese band that, as the title suggests, plays epic-style traditional heavy metal. I love the production, which is simple and unadorned, giving the album an old school sound like everyone was together in one room recording at the same time. The songs are pure metal anthems with pounding riffs and catchy choruses, lyrics about battle, magic and evil, good, solid metal topics with some nifty songwriting that make cuts like "Born in Steel" and "Master of Sorcery" stick in your head. I often thought of Omen's debut and very early Mercyful Fate as I was listening to Steel for Fire, so that should get you into the right time frame. Ladon Heads have come out of the gate with a strong effort and should be in the epic metal conversation going forward. Good stuff.
