Debut EP for this new band with members of Dimmu Borgir, Necrophobic and General Surgery who have decided they wanted to play some new old-school death metal together. The guitar often has that old Swedish sound, but it's not limited to that, which helps make things more diverse. The drums are out of control, pounding at high speed and making the walls shake even at a lowish volume, while the aggressive growls bring everything up to another level. No shortage of speed and aggression and songs that stick in your head once the album is over. "Beyond the Fire" is especially good, insanely fast and catchy and I found myself unable to sit still when it comes on—though I can probably say that of the whole EP. Intense, fast, brutal; just death metal done the right way. |
