Norway's Infernal have been around off and on since 1997 and have yet to release a full-length album, but this EP packs as much punch as one. This is a short but sweet slab of demonic black metal. Cold as steel, tight, fast and incisive is pretty much the name of the game here. The vocals are enraged and sometimes punctuated by piercing screams, and the chants sound right out of a satanic horror movie—the kind of stuff that'll make passer-bys turn around and walk away fast. The atmosphere is cold, dark and mysterious, very effective in bringing the music to the next level. It's too bad that aVe is so short, but that's what the play button is for once it's over. |
