Review

It has been a while since I reviewed an album by Colombia's Revenge and I've missed the last couple, but am back at it with their tenth full length, Night Danger, which is getting a world-wide release by Dying Victims Productions. These guys bleed '80s heavy metal, from their pedal to the floor speed to their cheesy-in-a-completely-awesome-way artwork to the font for the band name. You can call Revenge's music thrash, but, to my ears, it is more melodic with a traditional metal vibe to the riffing that just happens to be played really fast, which is why I call Night Danger speed metal. The songwriting is tighter and more focused than on the previous albums I've reviewed without sacrificing any of the band's loose, energetic playing. The solos might not be technical marvels, but they sure make me want to break out the air guitar (I feel like the Flying V is probably the most appropriate in this instance). Night Danger brings me back to hearing albums like Heavy Metal Maniac, Kill 'Em All and Killing Is My Business... for the first time. There isn't anything revolutionary here, just a bunch of musicians who've been at it a long time and have come up with fistfuls of great riffs and choruses with plenty of hooks.
