Djavo ("Devil") is the debut for this one-man Croatian band, who was on a hiatus for about 20 years. Sole band member "Insanus" has a lot of projects going, and he finally came back around to this one. This is orthodox but quality Black Metal in the vein of stuff like Sear Bliss or Lunar Aurora. It's got a lot of melody and a lot of layers mixed in with the aggression, and the production is really well done. The songwriting has a lot more ambition to it than just blast and screech, and I keep finding new things to like about it when I listen to it, as it has a lot of variation and detail. It's not going to blow you away, but it is very good at what it does. |
