I liked this band's debut from a couple of years back, and I have been looking forward to getting ahold of this one ever since I heard the advance track 6 months ago. Hjaal are definitely in the vein of Forefather, and this time out they sound even more akin to albums like Ours is the Kingdom or Steadfast. Since it's been ten years since we got a proper Forefather album, I am perfectly fine with a band trying to evoke that sound, especially as they do it this well. If you like this kind of melodic, riffy, pagan-themed Black Metal, then Hjaal are doing it right.
