Lord Vigo is a band that is constantly experimenting with their sound and with album number six, Walk the Shadows, experiments away from heavy metal and into hard rock and new wave rock territory. As I mentioned in my review of their last album (2022's We Shall Overcome), mid '80s Rush is a clear influence on Lord Vigo's music and the guitar riff in the middle of "Servant of the Dark" sounds like it could have been sampled from Alex Lifeson circa Grace Under Pressure. Many of the other tracks, such as "We Shall Not" and "Killing Hearts and Endless Nights" sound more like The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Big Country and other '80s new wave bands than anything heavy metal. If you are expecting the quirky doom metal of Lord Vigo's earlier releases, that ship has apparently sailed. My rating is based purely on Walk the Shadows' metal qualities, which are thin at best. If you also like the gothic end of '80s new wave and hard rock, like I do, you may find more here to like. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
