I got curious after reading Luxi's interview with mainman Carl Fulli and decided to check out this EP. It's really as described in the interview, basically a mix of old-school thrash and death metal with a modern vibe, largely because of a rather polished sound. This is pretty relentless and fast-paced music with harsh vocals that are walking on the fence between "extreme thrash" vocals and death growls, all while being relatively decipherable. The guitar work is of note, pretty much driving the whole thing with some speedy machine-gunning riffage and a few cool solos, all served with a heavy, crunchy sauce. It's a lot of fun, pretty much calling for constant headbanging (or at least head bobbing) and not letting go of the air guitar. I find it's not especially varied; the songs aren't quite alike but not all that different either when taken as a whole, sometimes always giving the impression that it's one long song. That doesn't take the fun away, and the mostly constant beat, which I'd usually find kind of annoying, is actually pretty damn addictive. Bleeding Edge is operating in a crowded genre, so this may have a hard time standing out in the crowd, but if you're looking for a good workout for your neck and your fingers, The Devil's Door will fit that bill nicely.
