Renaissance is the third album from Argentina's Raptore and finds them continuing to play their take on '80s traditional heavy metal. This one doesn't rely on speed as much as 2022's Blackfire did, though there are still tracks with a lot of get up and go, such as "Into the Bowels" and "Imperium." The focus on Renaissance is on mid-paced riffing with catchier choruses, so songs like "Darklight" remind me of the early music of Mötley Crüe and W.A.S.P. with their combination of heaviness and accessibility. "Satana," even recalls Mercyful Fate in a way with its vocal lines. The lead work remains exemplary, a real strength for Raptore to go along with their solid songwriting. I find Renaissance a bit less visceral and exciting than Blackfire but still a very good album of '80s style heavy metal by a band fast becoming a force in the subgenre.
