L.A. Project is a band with a name that gives you a clear picture of what to expect. Hailing from Portugal, they play hard rock/heavy metal that is influenced by some of the more mainstream California bands from the ‘80s, especially those that (at least initially) didn’t get sucked into the hair metal wave that rolled down the Sunset Strip. There’s quality shredding guitar work on their EP Electric Life, but nothing I would say goes above and beyond what’s been done before. The songwriting is also good, not great, and being independently produced can explain some of the flatness in the sound, but it is somewhat sterile. Overall, Electric Life is unremarkable but decent melodic metal with above average guitar work, so if George Lynch, Paul Gilbert, Warren DeMartini, and that crowd have a spot in your rotation, L.A. Project might be worth investigating. |
