Some fast black metal in the vein of early Marduk here, though Arvas seem to be working more on the melodic side of things on VI. There’s speed aplenty, so if the high-speed black metal of the mid-90s appeals to you, then this is a good trip back to those times. Arvas don’t just play for speed, though, and the whole album has a creepy and dark atmosphere that keeps dragging you back in when the album is over. It’s not the most original thing you’ll come across, but if you want some speedy black metal delivered with precision, attitude and you enjoy some darkness in your life, then VI will certainly do the trick. I’ve been listening to this one for weeks now and it doesn’t get old. |
