Second album from this Indonesian one-man band, getting a rerelease from Italian label Flowing Downward. This is an album of melancholic Black Metal with a ton of melody that draws heavily on Doom as well as the more usual Atmospheric Black Metal tropes. The melodies in particular are not the usual tremolo style, but rather keyboard-drenched sounds more akin to emo-styled pop melodies. That's not to say this is bad, but the melodic sense is far more accessible than the rasping vocals would tend to indicate, and if you concentrate on the lines, you can well imagine Céline Dion or Adele using this stuff as backing for some overhyped love ballad. Overall, I find this listenable, but the sweet melodies do get on my nerves after a while, and I wish they were more atonal and unfriendly. |
