Tyrants of Wrath is the second full-length album from Mexico's Phantom, a band that keeps steadily getting better with each release. Once again full of speedy, evil and blackened speed metal, Tyrants of Wrath has tighter playing and more focused songwriting and is a ton of fun. There are a few well-placed instrumentals like the intro, "Poltergeist," and the supremely creepy "Nocturnal Opus 666," which sounds like it should be accompanying a showing of the silent film, Nosferatu, as well as the clean singing on "Dance of the Spiders," so while speed is Phantom's calling card, it isn't the only one in their evil deck of cards. If you just want to hear the band mash down the gas pedal, queue up "Thunderbeast" or "Nazghul" and get the neck brace ready. Aimed right at fans of Midnight, Bewitcher and early Slayer, Tyrants of Wrath hits the target dead center.
