It had been a while since I heard Merrimack and Of Grace and Gravity is pretty much what I expected from the band, a mix of second wave (mid-90s or so) black metal with the more atmospheric and melodic style that was common in the French scene in the early 2000s. You like speedy and brutal? There's some of that here. You like it more atmospheric, melodic and even melancholic? Yep, that's also on the menu. All that nicely tied together and flowing flawlessly from beginning to end. By now this is the kind of sound anyone into black metal has heard before, so the question is whether Merrimack can deliver the goods and do it right, and the answer is yes.
