Stormbreaker, now there’s a name for a power metal band. This one is a Finnish act and Vengeance is their debut EP. Featuring a mix of male and female vocals, Stormbreaker play a power/thrash style, especially on the opening title track but settle into a groove similar to bands like Seven Kingdoms, Helion Prime, Unleash the Archers, etc. for the rest. The songwriting is solid with a good feel for hooks that, combined with the harsh male/clean female singing, isn’t a long way from Lordi, though heavier. There’s nothing on Vengeance that’ll turn your head, but it’s a decent first effort from Stormbreaker. Hopefully there’s better on the way.
