I thought this band's last album, Oak, Ash & Thorn, was their best work yet, and so I was looking forward to more from them. I am a bit disappointed that this is just an EP, but it's a really, really good one. From the very first note, you have the sound of a band that is playing to their strengths—they have figured out what they do best, and they are doing it. This band plays classic, NWOBHM Heavy Metal with a slight folky edge and a ton of hooks. There's just so much to like here, from the clean-limbed, agile guitar work to the stellar production and the smooth, evocative singing of frontman Josh Winnard. He doesn't have the strongest voice, but he is developing one of those distinct voices, like Terry Jones or Marco Concoreggi—a voice that creates a whole mood just from the way it sounds, regardless of power or polish.

This is just a pleasure to listen to from start to finish. The melodies are keen and catchy, the atmosphere is like a breath of spring air over a heath, and I really think keeping this to five songs just trimmed off any excess and let them focus on making every song as good as it could be. I still wish it was longer, though, because I don't want it to be over.
