Triskelyon is a project started by Geoff Waye of Category VI, and includes contributions from Pete Healey, Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), both on vocals, and Raul Marques (Burning Torment) doing the drum programming. This is loosely described as thrash metal, but I think this might just be power/thrash, plain and simple. The three songs have the rage, heaviness and some rawness you expect from thrash, but also the melody and speed you’ll find in the more aggressive and harsher forms of power metal (no flowery stuff here, people). Pete’s vocals definitely are more of the aggressive heavy/power metal variety while Marlee shakes the hell out of the speakers with a more aggressive and harsher, yet high-pitched style. Throughout the too-short running time, I can’t help but think that this reminds me of a couple of bands, but bands that I haven’t heard in so long that I can’t summon their names (so yeah, this has been driving me nuts). Much like the vocals, the air-guitar-inducing guitar work boasts elements of heavy/power/thrash, kicking off with a loud and fat and grinding sound but often going into more melodic, yet still aggressive territory. Lots of fun to be had here, though it’s a shame that the running time is so short. Let’s hope Geoff has more material of the same vein in the works.
