Unsilence are a UK Doom-band that unsurprisingly seem rather well influenced by classic-era Solstice. They have a heavy, melodic style that takes little flavoring from the expected Sabbath and rather plays a more epic, Trad Metal style. I like the riffing okay, even if none of it is really brilliant. Vocalist James Kilmurray has a strong, clear voice with that slight reedy tone that makes him sound distinctively British – on a continuum with Simon Matravers or even Ian Anderson. I would like to say I like this better than I do, but the songwriting is a bit repetitive for my ears, and the vocal lines are often too upbeat and do not fit the music well. So this is okay, but not epochal or anything. |
