Okay, straight off the bat I'm going to come out and say that this isn't for me. See The Sky are an experimental progressive metal act hailing from Norway. The band's sound is one I've found difficult to peg, which is largely due to the fact that I find it hard to sit through the album. It doesn't help when the band kick off with a giant eighteen-minute song, which I feel probably isn't the wisest start to an album, especially considering the style and the rest of the tracks, which flow at normal lengths. See The Sky mix many styles throughout the hour plus run length of NWODOA, although to these ears the sound doesn't really work all that well. I can appreciate that the guys are trying to do something different, something new, good on them, but I can't get away with the jarring vocal styles and weak production. There are some good moments in the album, and the band definitely have some ideas that could be good, sadly a lot of their hard work is ruined by the aforementioned jarring vocal styles, which are rooted in nu-metal and are seriously too much. On paper the blend of progressive rock and metal with some extreme influences See The Sky serve up sounds like something I could happily enjoy, however the finished product is something I could happily avoid. |
