Been five years since I reviewed the entertaining Bloodline, Svartsyn's fourth album, and here we have the sixth. I have to say I am not enjoying this album that much. It's okay, but the old-school riffs are gone from the mix for a more modern "extreme metal" sound. The guitars are weak, the riffs simplistic and muffled, and the vocals are mixed front and center, so mostly what you hear are Ornias' barking, which has had a shitload of effects piled on it until it sounds like it could be anybody. This album is trying hard, but there's just not much to get excited about. Pedestrian playing and lackluster songwriting adds to a flat recording job to make a dull album. |
