This band put out their debut album 22 freakin' years ago, and I still just now discovered them. Nobody can say these guys (and the one chick), haven't paid their dues. Mystery Blue are a French band of the extreme old school, and they crank up some unholy thrashing killer shit on this, their fifth studio album. Mystery Blue are Heavy Metal, plain and simple. No trends, no bullshit, not experimenting with fuck-all. No, they just blast off with steel smoldering riffs and seemingly limitless energy. Okay, they actually start with a very silly intro, but then they fire up the steel riff ownage and never stop. The title track kills, followed by other murderous tracks like "Electric Power" and the insanely catchy "Queen Of The Damned". Singer Nathalie Geyer wails with powerful, kickass vocals that don't give an inch to any male singer anywhere. A lot of metal vocalists only wish they could sing with this much balls. If you like Priest-styled 80's Heavy Metal mayhem, then this is a real find. Mystery Blue go on the list with other fine female-fronted pure steel bands like Valkija or Benedictum, but if you ask me, Mystery Blue rock harder than any of them. Don't miss this one. |
