Man, it is a good thing I'm on Adipocere's promo list, because they release some awesome shit, and their stuff is almost impossible to get here in the states. Eciton may have a weird name, but for a debut album "Oppressed" is one Hell of an impressive onslaught of some killer old-school Death Metal.

These guys may be Scandinavian, but they play Death like Florida was still the center of the universe. Hearkening back to the riff-intensive style of Death or a less-frenetic Deicide, Eciton's only nod to a modern sound is the odd melodic flourish they throw into the mix, but otherwise this sounds like a 1990 album with a modern production. Like other old-stylers such as Unholy Ghost and Poland's Mutilation, Eciton ride no trends at all, they just play Death Metal the fast, brutal, ugly way it should be played. Some of the cuts sound a bit alike, even on an album this short, but the ass-kicking in progress will keep you snarling anyway.

No innovation here, but good riffs and pounding killer drums mixed with savage vocal grunts you can mostly understand makes for a solid fistful of Death Metal goodness. Wash the Gothenburger crap out of your ears and get some stuff that will remind you why Death was cool in the first place. Eciton deliver the goods.
