| 2nd Edition is, naturally, the second full-length from California's Gygax and is even more of a hard-rocking effort than the debut. The straightforward song writing emphasizes the chugging, bluesy riffs and southern rock-style solos which makes listening to 2nd Edition like listening to Molly Hatchet's Greatest Hits. There are other influences, like U.F.O. ("The Lascivious Underdark") and Thin Lizzy ("Pure Hearts"), but the metal is limited mainly to cuts like "Song of the Silver Hands" and "Second Wind." 2nd Edition is well played; it just isn't very exciting unless 70s hard rock and/or southern rock is your thing. | |||||||
