It seems as though everyone's favorite Finnish Speed Metal band Ranger has turned back into early Exciter after an unwise detour on their debut Where Evil Dwells. 2106's Speed & Violence is the band's second full-length and even the title hearkens back to Exciter's Violence and Force album. To say nothing of the artwork; a tattooed, leather-clad arm holding a bloody knife. Sound familiar? Singer Dimi shrieks and screams like Dan Beehler of old and it makes you wonder when his vocal cords will serve notice that they are done with this shit. Everyone in the band plays a million miles an hour and the riffs are fired out at machine-gun rates. Here's the best part; the songwriting is much better than the debut. Gone are the clumsy vocal lines, dull Thrash riffs and Crossover elements. This time we're back to pure, early 80s Speed Metal and who cares if it sounds a lot like Exciter? Not me. Yeah, this is what I was expecting after Knights of Darkness and Shock Skull. Ranger is back on track so get ready to snap your neck.
