Every now I then I give Cryptopsy another try, hoping for "something". I never saw what the big deal was, and I still don't see it on The Book of Suffering - Tome I. But this time I might have an explanation: just after this I played the self-titled Black Fucking Cancer album and heard what I don't hear with Cryptopsy: Atmosphere. Cryptopsy are very technical and while it does highlight their prowess as musicians, just from a music listener's point of view it's just dry, clinical, mechanical. Sure it's fast and precise, but it doesn't have that "life" that you expect from music – I don't get the kick out of their music that I got out of Black Seeds of Vengeance, for example. So, kudos for the technical playing, but this really gets old quick.
