This MCD is pretty much released to satisfy fans waiting for the successor to the highly-acclaimed "Procession to the Infraworld" album released in 2000. Don't let this turn you off though, as the band once again delivers excellent Death Metal material that has nothing to envy their previous releases. Once again the band's signature sound is present from start to finish - I find their guitar playing very distinctive from other bands. Something I like on this release is that some riffs borrow more from the heavy metal and thrash genres than from death metal, especially one great solo on "The Gravefields". This makes the songs somewhat catchier (dare I say melodic?) than on most Death Metal albums where speed, and speed only, is king. The Chasm were already doing something like this on earlier releases and here they took it to the next level, resulting in a very interesting and pleasing mix of the genres. Fear not, the music is still very aggressive and heavy, and the vocals are pretty much the same as on "Procession...", low growls with a thrashy edge. The band doesn't steer too far away from the winning formula of "Procession...", but the songwriting and tight playing are getting even better. This is good news for those like me who are anxiously awaiting the next full-length album. Highly recommended. The MCD is an independent release since at the time of writing, The Chasm are no longer a signed band. Yet another unexplainable event in the music industry... Additional Information Limited Editon on vinyl by Danza Ipnotica Records The CD can be purchased from some small distros as well as from the Daniel Corchado's independent label: Lux Inframundis Productions |
