This is the second album from England’s Sarpanitum, and it is a startlingly good recording. This band is unabashedly Death Metal, but they are not just an ordinary Death band. Sarpanitum mixes the tightness and technicality of bands like Decrepit Birth - albeit not nearly so technical as that - with a blazing, shredding sense of melody and ace songwriting that makes this soar above the rank and file. Sarpanitum build songs that are true Death Metal behemoths and yet are layered with atmosphere and hooks as well as brutality and slashing riff-work. This puts the last few Nile albums to utter shame, though it must be said that despite the Middle-Eastern Mythological themes, Sarpanitum really do not sound quite like any other band. Stellar.
