So here we have Statues Fall, the debut album from Germany's Edgedown. If I had to sum it up quickly I would say it is equal parts Vicious Rumors and Act III-era Death Angel. The songs are Power/Thrash in nature with a sharp, aggressive guitar tone, pissed off vocals (that sound quite a bit like Death Angel's Mark Osegueda) and a pummeling rhythm section. The songs have that pit-friendly, turn-the-stereo-up-to-11 vibe but lack any true hooks or choruses that you can sink your teeth into. After listening to Statues Fall, it is kind of hard to remember anything specific, other than it was a damn good time. The chops are there so Edgedown just needs to ratchet up the songwriting a few notches to rise above the crowd. In the meantime, fans of Vicious Rumors and Death Angel, along with the likes of Helstar and Forbidden, should be keeping an eye on this band. |
