Bands have obviously been having a hard time coming up with good names in the past couple of years, and longer, weirder names have been popping up quite a bit over the past year – I have a permanent "WTF?!" face from reading all the press releases coming to my inbox. Believe it or not, Torn the Fuck Apart is actually a good name compared to all the shit I've been seeing. But on to the album...

This is actually better than I expected. With a band and album name like that, I expected a mindless barrage of speedy chaotic "music" with puke-ish vocals. While this is not actually great stuff, the album has its moments. The band mixes no-holds-barred brutal Death Metal with technical Death Metal, and throw in some juvenile crap into the mix – the kind of sound effects one would expect from reading the album's title. Fortunately the latter is kept to a minimum, so it's tolerable. There are a few slow, melodic parts with a good atmospheric vibe – a sharp contrast with everything else here, but which works surprisingly well.

The mix of brute-ish, fast Death Metal with technical more or less works. Sometimes things flow rather well, but more often than not this makes the album sound way too disjointed for my taste. Your mileage may vary. Torn the Fuck Apart do not present here a sound that hasn't been done hundreds of times before, but some people may like the variety crammed into these 35 minutes.
