Now this is the shit right here. Burialkult are a young band, but they play the kind of stinking, virulent, ugly underground thrashing Black Metal that I like to fucking hear. Mixing in equal parts classic Mayhem and Hellhammer with modern subterranean shit like Sauron and Manticore, Burialkult have produced an album of bruising riffs, vocal howls of agony, and songwriting that goes right for the throat. They have a punishing guitar sound and the mix is suitably raw and unadorned, wielding a vicious sound that hits like a claw hammer. Songs like "Blasphemous Infernal", the hammering "Filth", or the splendid "Spell of Black Vomit" are what this shit is supposed to be about, but really, there's not a dead spot on the whole album. This is ugly, nasty, stinking Black Metal for the fan of old-fashioned underground hatefulness. Fun. |
