For inspection today is the debut release from Swish/French progressive metal upstarts Time Grid. I wasn't expecting too much going in but I have to say I'm impressed. This is some wonderful progressive metal that blends technically and tranquility in wonderful ways like a Dream Theater/ Sieges Even hybrid. The band takes the two-singer approach, both male and female who happen to complement each other very well. There's definitely a lot of interesting stuff going on throughout the album in the vocal department. Of course this is progressive metal so it won't be too surprising to see prolonged songs and instrumental passages, as well as technically demanding sections that are common place amongst prog metal acts. Whilst Life won't convert the prog naysayer, previously established fans of the genre should really seek this out. You can listen to the album on their Bandcamp page, as well as purchase it from there, so really this is a no brainer, charming and promising Time Grid are one to watch. |
